Instigation Catalyses What Complexity Reveals.

Complexity isn't always problematic.

What we lose by reducing it can be.

Instigation creates rehumanising spaces and practices that strengthen how people, teams, communities, and organisations see, learn and participate within complexity and change.

HUMANENESS IN PRACTICE

More of reality may belong in the room than our familiar maps can currently hold.

THE PROBLEM

Reduction Has A Cost.

What becomes easier to manage can become harder to navigate.

When complexity presses against the edges of our familiar maps, reducing it can feel efficient.

People become positions.

Difference becomes division.

Constraints become incapacity.

Certainty displaces inquiry.

Communities become silos.

Discomfort becomes danger.

Outcomes obscure journeys.

What disappears may be precisely what we need to see.

THE INSTIGATION PROPOSITION

Rehumanising Creates Another Possibility.

Rehumanising practices widen our gaze, inviting unnoticed edges and realities back into view. They help us remain available to more of reality without requiring complexity to disappear.

They strengthen our capacity to see, learn, discern and participate—and create conditions in which agency, relationship and humaneness can remain in view.

WHY THIS WORK EXISTS

The Ethos

Complexity Is Part of The Human Condition.

Being humane within it takes work.

We are human. We make maps.

We make maps to help us navigate the terrain of the realities we live within. They are shaped by what we have experienced, learned, inherited, believed, feared, loved and come to understand.

But no individual or communal map can contain the whole terrain.

What we hold at the centre can keep our evolving map of reality from blowing away. The edges can keep our map from becoming obsolete.

Humaneness offers an orienting direction as we encounter both.

Rehumanising practices help us remain available to what the terrain reveals, reconsider our maps when necessary, and reorient how we participate in what happens next.

Sustaining humaneness is evolutionary work.

Our maps help us understand where we think we are.  The terrain continually tests that understanding.

Human

Our shared condition: fallible, relational, contradictory, vulnerable, adaptive and unfinished.

Humane

A cultivated orientation within that condition—remaining capable of love, dignity, consideration, justice and responsible participation as more of reality comes into view.

Rehumanising

The practices through which humaneness remains alive and capable of evolving: meeting again, noticing again, reconsidering, reorienting and answering anew.

Rehumanising in Practice

Meet. Respond. Participate. Meet Again.

ANSWER is an ongoing practice for moving in relationship with the realities we encounter. It is not a formula for finding the right answer, but a way of remaining available to what reality reveals and considering how we will engage with it.

MEET → RESPOND → PARTICIPATE → MEET AGAIN ↻

MEET

RESPOND

PARTICIPATE

MEET AGAIN

MEET

Encounter what is here.

Reality continually presents us with people, circumstances, information, differences, constraints and possibilities we did not entirely choose.

Some affirm our existing maps. Others press against their edges.

What we meet becomes an invitation.

RESPOND

Engage the invitation.

We don't have to immediately resolve, reduce or act upon what we encounter. Responding begins by becoming more available to what it might reveal.

As our capacity allows, we can notice what shapes how we see, honour the legitimate concerns it may carry, widen what is available to consideration, and discern what becomes possible with more of reality in view.

PARTICIPATE

Engage with what we have met.

Seeing more is not the destination.

Participation moves us from encountering and considering reality towards engaging with it—bringing what we have noticed, honoured, widened and discerned into how we choose to act.

How am I prepared to participate in what happens next?

MEET AGAIN

Encounter what happens next.

Our participation enters a reality larger than our maps. Other people respond. Conditions change. Consequences emerge. Something previously unnoticed may come into view.

Reality meets us again—and the practice continues.

Ways to Work Together

Different Contexts. Different Ways In.

Instigation works with leaders, teams, organisations and communities through facilitation, leadership development, coaching and systems exploration. Each engagement creates space to navigate complexity, strengthen relationships and discover more considered ways of participating in change.

Facilitation & Dialogue

Leadership & Capacity

Systems Exploration

Speaking, Salons & Events

For groups, communities and organisations navigating complexity, disagreement, change and questions for which more information alone is insufficient.

Leadership development, one-to-one and team coaching, reflective practice and experiential learning that strengthen the capacities needed to lead and participate amid complexity, uncertainty, relationship and change.

Facilitated inquiry into assumptions, relationships, practices and conditions shaping participation within a system.

Provocations and conversations that open possibility, deepen understanding and invite more considered participation.

Rehumanising In Practice

The Aim Isn't To Eliminate Complexity.

It is to become more capable of meeting it without unnecessarily reducing the people, relationships and realities involved.

How we participate in creating change shapes what becomes possible within it.

The values we hope to see expressed in our relationships, organisations, communities and systems cannot remain aspirations for some future state. They are also invitations to practise within the circumstances and capacities available to us now.

Seeing without immediately reducing.

Holding conviction without surrendering curiosity.

Belonging without abandoning agency.

Meeting pain without simply transmitting it.

Learning from failure without abandoning accountability.

Participating in change without pretending complexity can be eliminated.

A CONVERSATION WORTH BEGINNING

Being human is a condition.

Being humane takes work.

Sustaining humaneness is evolutionary work.

Rehumanising practices help us do that work.

What could complexity be revealing to you?

Is there something pressing against the edges of the familiar map?

There may be more to see.
